We believe that good data practices and acting as responsible citizens go hand in hand. Integrity and accountability are the bedrock of everything we do: who we work with; where and how we manage client data; and our impact on people and the environment.
As a small remote-first consultancy our operational footprint is already minimal, however we still have the ability to reflect and improve how we can minimise it further. By combining digital-first working practices with purpose-driven ethics, we actively reduce our environmental impact and make a positive social contribution.
Environmental stewardship
We minimise our consumption and generated waste:
- Data: We reduce our reliance on paper and non-digital assets by choosing digital options where possible. We implement data retention policies to reduce the need to increase storage.
- Equipment: We reuse refurbished low-power servers that other companies have abandoned through their planned equipment refresh cycles. We refresh IT equipment only when no longer fit for purpose.
- Disposal: We reuse and recycle as much as possible. Where IT equipment can’t be reused by others, it is sent to an authorised e-waste handler.
Digital decarbonisation
We reduce the carbon footprint of our digital operations:
- Hosting: We reduce our fossil fuel reliance by hosting our own services using an energy provider that invests heavily in renewable energy.
- Scheduling: We reduce our carbon emissions by using grid intensity forecasting to schedule energy-intensive compute/AI workloads.
- Travel: We reduce travel and associated emissions by rewarding clients with reduced hourly rates for remote engagements.
Social impact
We make our community and society a better place:
- Pro bono work: We donate a proportion of our time to offer pro bono advice and assistance to small non-profits and charities that lack dedicated expertise.
- Digital literacy: We share resources to help local individuals and small organisations manage data effectively and stay safe online.
- Inclusive workplace: We respect our core and extended team with work-life balance, fair pay, and equal opportunities. We actively promote a flexible digital work culture.
Ethical technology
We demonstrate how we use our skills and technology for good:
- Transparency: We explain to clients and others what data we hold, how we use it and with whom we share it. We use locally-hosted services (including AI models) to reduce data-related risks.
- Ethics beyond compliance: We champion ethical data handling not only within Hampton Dell but also across all client engagements.
- Supply chain: We refuse to work with clients and suppliers that don’t align with our core values.
